Live Filter

I. Why Live Filter?

Live Filter was built to help your visitors to find what they want quickly and easily.

Click here to see the demo of Live Filter.

To show filters in sidebar, please check this document.

Content Views Pro already has the Shuffle Filter feature, which provides a nice animation to filtering WordPress posts by category, tag or custom taxonomy. You can find the demo of Shuffle Filter here.

But Shuffle filter also has disadvantages: it doesn’t support numbered pagination, it can’t show WordPress custom fields as filter options, it can’t show sort options. That is why we’ve built a new filter called “Live Filter”, which offers another powerful filtering & sorting functionality to your WordPress site, to help your visitors to find what they want quickly.

The main differences between Shuffle Filter and Live Filter:

Live Filter Shuffle Filter

It only can filter well with one taxonomy.

With Live Filter, you can show filters as:

II. How to use?

1. Show taxonomy (category, tag…) as filters

In Filter Settings tab, select Taxonomy (Categories, Tags...) in Advance group, then select the taxonomy you want to show. After that, select the Show as filters to visitors checkbox:

2. Show custom field values as filters

In Filter Settings tab, select Custom Fields in Advance group, then click Add New button. New field will be added, just select name of the custom field, value type, then select Show as filters to visitors:

Live Filter - custom field

There are extra settings depend on the Type option which help you to customize the filter output.

For example, these are settings to display price of WooCommerce products in a range slider:
Content Views Pro - live filter for WooCommerce price

3. Show text search field

In Filter Settings tab, select Keyword in Advance group, then select Show search field to visitors:

Faceted search - search box

4. Show custom field as sort options

In Filter Settings tab, select Sort by in Advance group, then click Add New button in Custom Fields group. New field will be added, just select name of the custom field, value type, then select Show as sort option to visitors:

Live Filter - sort custom field
(show both ascending and descending options of a custom field)

5. Show options to sort by Title, Date

Besides showing custom fields as sort options, you can show common options too:

  • Date (Oldest)
  • Date (Newest)
  • Title (A – Z)
  • Title (Z – A)
  • Comments count (asc)
  • Comments count (desc)

That helps your visitors to sort content themselves by title, date, comments count.

Content Views Pro - live filter sort by title, date, so on

These options are selectable, and their text are changeable.
